Powering Biogas. Capturing Carbon. Accelerating the Net-Zero Future

Clay-based CO₂ capture for cleaner, more efficient biogas upgrading.

Why CarbSorbTec?

Our clay-based sorbent technology enables efficient biogas upgrading through selective CO₂ capture, delivering high biomethane yields, low operating costs, and sustainable resource recovery. Beyond biogas, our platform can also capture CO₂ emissions from a wide range of industrial sources, supporting decarbonization and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

High CO₂/CH₄ Selectivity

  • Patented clay sorbents selectively capture CO₂ while minimizing methane losses.
  • Up to ~30× higher affinity for CO₂ than CH₄, enabling efficient biomethane upgrading.
  • High CO₂ adsorption capacity.

Low Energy Consumption

Low-pressure (near-ambient) operation and energy-efficient regeneration reduce energy demand. No heating is required for sorbent regeneration, lowering both CAPEX and OPEX.

High-Purity Biomethane & Bio-CO₂

Produces valuable product streams, including grid-quality biomethane and high-purity biogenic CO₂, maximizing resource recovery.

Modular & Scalable Design

Compact, modular design enables cost-effective deployment and straightforward scale-up. Flexible PSA architecture is suitable for applications ranging from small farms and wastewater plants to large industrial biogas facilities.

Natural & Sustainable Materials

Made from abundant mineral clay, our sorbents are low-cost, reusable, and free of toxic chemicals. They provide a sustainable alternative to conventional sorbent materials.

Waste-Free Operation

No solvents, toxic by-products, or secondary waste streams, enabling clean, safe, and simple operation.

Science-Backed, Industry-Proven

Patent-protected technology validated through peer-reviewed research and successfully demonstrated from laboratory studies to continuous pilot-scale operation (TRL 5-6).

Robust & Durable

Long-lived sorbents maintain stable performance with minimal degradation over repeated adsorption-regeneration cycles.

How Our Technology Works

From raw biogas to biomethane — powered by advanced clay adsorbents

Raw biogas of CH₄ and CO₂ from a digester feeds an adsorption column of clay pellets that yields biomethane, while a paired column regenerates and releases biogenic CO₂, with an inset showing the clay platelets and CO₂ adsorption between their layers

CarbSorbTec uses engineered clay-based adsorbents to selectively capture CO₂ from biogas. Through a continuous adsorption-regeneration cycle, our technology produces high-purity biomethane and a concentrated biogenic CO₂ stream with low energy consumption.

Molecular-Level Selectivity

CarbSorbTec's clay-based sorbents represent a step change in carbon capture and biogas upgrading. Within the layered clay structure, engineered adsorption sites selectively bind CO₂ molecules while allowing methane to pass through, enabling highly selective gas separation with minimal sorbent degradation.

Engineering and Process Control Across Multiple Scales

From molecular sorbent design to pilot-scale biogas upgrading and complete processing units, we transform scientific innovation into practical, scalable technologies. By integrating materials science, process engineering, and advanced control systems, we deliver solutions that accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

Integrated engineering for low-carbon, high-performance solutions

Engineering across multiple scales, from molecular interactions to plant performance: molecular (interlayer spacing, ion exchange, CO₂/CH₄ selectivity), particle and pellet (extrusion, porosity, mechanical strength, mass transfer), column (bed packing, pressure drop, breakthrough, dual-bed swing) and plant (containerised unit, PLC process control, product purity of at least 97% CH₄, optimised low energy use)

Powered by Clay. Driven by Sustainability.

At the heart of CarbSorbTec's technology is a unique clay-based sorbent made from abundant natural minerals. By capturing CO₂ through pressure-based separation rather than chemical solvents, our process combines high efficiency with low energy consumption. The result is a simple, sustainable, and cost-effective solution for biogas upgrading and carbon capture.

No solvents. No harmful emissions. Just smarter materials enabling cleaner biomethane production and a lower-carbon future.
